About
Until now on The Financial Powerhouse Podcast, it’s mostly been me talking about personal finances and strategies that you can use as a business owner, but today we’ll be talking about love and money.
I’ve found this topic can really shake people up, and I personally feel money, religion, politics, and sex are the things that can really set your relationship on a bad path if you’re not aligned. That’s why I’m so excited to bring this conversation with Dr. Ed Coambs.
Dr. Coambs is the author of Love and Money and an internationally recognized thought leader in financial therapy who’s been cited in The Wall Street Journal, The Associated Press, Time Magazine, CNBC, and more.
Dr. Coambs’ specialty is leading couples through from financial despair and frustration into financial intimacy and connection using the latest in love and brain science.
In this episode, we chat about his professional journey from being a firefighter all the to the work he does now, why earning more money won’t solve the financial problems in a relationship, financial trauma and the role it plays in our relationship with money, how many is the source of conflict in a relationship and not necessarily the cause, why we all need to have financial empathy in our relationship and what that looks like, his thoughts on couples having joint but separate accounts, the importance of continuing to communicate with your partner no matter how long you’ve been together, how to bridge the gap with each partner has a different risk tolerance with their finances, and more.
